Comment: Hi to SHS 1975.   Well, some of us still live here.  I work in the high school everyday and wow, it has certainly changed!!  I have been teaching Special Ed since 1980, the first 10 years in Cranford, and the second 10 years in Summit.  Now I am supervising the dept.  There are 13 Spec ed teachers in the high school alone.  My kids are there too; Matthew 17, and Katie, 15.   I was widowed four years ago and we still miss Brian, but we are doing pretty well now.  I hope many of you can make it to the reunion-  I would be happy to give you the nickel tour of your old school!  You wouldn't believe how many of our classmates' children are roaming around these halls.  Talk about de ja vu!

Favorite Music/Recording Artists: I sing quite a bit and I think I was suppose to sing back up for Barbra Streisand, but I guess she must have LOST MY PHONE NUMBER, like 20 year ago, so now I listen to James Taylor, Jim Brickman, Rod Stewart, Eva Cassidy, (does anyone know who she is? )

Comment:

2016 was a big year for us.  Terry (Ringwood) and I retired and moved from Landing, NJ (Morris County) to Clermont, FL (Lake County).  Terry retired from Picatinny Arsenal after 37 years, and I retired after working 41 years (19 with IBM, 14 with Bear Stearns and 8 with Picatinny).  We just celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary and we're loving retirement.  We found the one section of Central Florida that has hills.  Our community (HOA) consists of 335 homes and I found my niche on our HOA Board.  Being on the HOA Board pushes me to also participate in City Council Meetings, Planning & Zoning Meetings, County Meetings, and Coffee meetings with the Mayor, Police Department and School Board Members.  My personal time is spent gardening, hanging by our pool and spending time with our two Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs (mother and son).  We adopted Annie and Duke from a breeder in Polk County and our house hasn't been the same since!  Our son Brian stayed up north and is doing well, as well as the rest of the Merchant clan.  Everyone has stayed in NJ and love the fact that they have a place to crash in Florida when the snow gets to be too much!

Check out lulu.com for Terry's book - The Changemaker - sequel to follow.  He's also added three completed "books" and one "work in progress" to fan fiction (the Harry Potter series).  He has quite a following on fan fiction -- he does know how to tell a wonderful story!  If you're interested, let him know (moco973@hotmail.com) and he'll direct you to the site.

It's now 2019 and we've truly acclimated to Florida.  Yes, it does get extremely hot but that is why we do all our outside work early in the morning and then spend the rest of the time on our lanai or in the pool.  Our lazy days are spent walking our two dogs, taking our bicycles and riding along the trails along Waterfront Park / Lake Minneola or driving about 30 minutes to visit Walt Disney World where we are Annual Passholders.  We also joined a Gun Club and are finetuning our target skills.  Our Downtown area boasts many eclectic shops and a weekly Farmer's Market where dogs are welcome.  We were blessed in finding this community and our house.

Florida is very different from New Jersey.  We miss Spring and Fall in New Jersey, but definitely don't miss the Winter.  We love having our gardens year round and eating bananas from our trees year round.  It's like a continual Spring/Summer down here.  We've ridden out a few hurricanes so far and survived -- we came down prepared with our generator and an emergency plan.  It also helps that our community is on the same grid as the hospital which is less than a mile away.

We are definitely enjoying our retirement!

Comment: Well, if you've read Marion Merchant's comments you know we are still married after nearly 27 years.  Also that I'm still at Picatinny Arsenal after 29 years.  I've also done a 5 year stint as an adjunct instructor for Centenary College in their adult degree program teaching Management and Leadership.  I'm looking to go back into teaching.  I've also tried my hand at writing and self published a fantasy adventure novel.  It's done as a hobby with no great aspirations of writing the next big block buster.  Mostly it helps reduce the number and volume of the voices in my head.  Have a couple of 60s vintage Dodges that i tinker with as well.  I have to agree with Mark D. that this is a more interesting time of life and with all due respect to my friends from SHS '75 I'd never go back to  those years.  These are the times of our lives.  But it would be nice to make contact with some of those friends from those years like Mary Beth Close, George Rittersbach and so on.
My thanks to those of you who are working to put this together and hope to hear from those few who remember me before hand.
Oh, and in case you're wondering about the 'now' picture, that was us on the new Toy Story ride at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Comment: Great to read all the bios! I did 4 yrs at Stanford, 4 yrs at NYU Med School, 5yrs of General Surgery residency in Miami (Jackson Memorial/Uof M), one year in Houston in Colorectal Surgery (I think I've heard every relevant joke possible). Been in practice here in Stuart, Fla ever since (21 years) - a great place to live and raise a family. Been married to beautiful Sara for 18 years and we have two great  boys 12 and 14. I also do Bariatric Surgery now and have been pretty active in hospital board leadership. Spare time is family fun, tennis, poker with the boys, traveling. We spend a lot of our summer time in Ocean City, NJ, and both of my siblings live in Mendham. Can't wait to catch up with classmates - see you in Summit!
Favorite Music/Recording Artists: Springsteen, Stevie, The Who, Beatles

Comment: Husband (Ned) and I both teach full time and work the farm; it's been busy and he has scaled the farm back a bit this year.  We take time to socialize, dance, laugh, and enjoy life!  Although our "nest" is empty, we are not waiting until retirement to get out there and live!  Our daughter, 26, has called Wisconsin home since graduating Lafayette; she is recently engaged.  So far it's been exciting to help plan the wedding.  Our twin sons, 21, are seniors at Roger Williams Univ. in RI.  We watch as many of their lacrosse games as we can squeeze into our schedule.  I'm so sad that I'll be missing all the festivity and comraderie at the upcoming reunion!   Perhaps we'll correspond via email in the interim.  Would love to get back in touch with many classmates. If you are reading this, I hope you are well.

Cheers!
