We are sad to report the passing of two of our classmates, Anthony Pannella on March 28, 2018 and Steve Huettel on September 28, 2018.

Steven A. Huettel, 61, passed away  at his home on September 28 from complications relating to Alzheimer’s Disease. For most of his adult life, Steve was a respected newspaper journalist in the Bay Area who was passionate about his trade and whose work won national, statewide and local awards. For 28 years, Steve covered stories involving the military, local government, transportation and business for The Tampa Tribune and the Saint Petersburg (now Tampa Bay) Times.

Steve grew up in Summit, NJ, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1979 with a degree in journalism, and was a lifelong Tarheels basketball fan. He met his wife, Jennifer Scott, in school at Chapel Hill and they married in 1982. They had two children, Kathryn and Matthew, both of whom Steve was extremely proud.

Steve lived his life with integrity and faith in God. He is survived by his wife and children, his brother Richard (Sue) and their children Christopher, Ryan, Timothy and Grace, his sister Julie (Don) Lamken; and his mother Nancy.

A memorial service will be held at the Hyde Park United Methodist Chapel on Sunday, October 21 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting, for those who wish, a donation made in Steve’s name to Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W Platt St, Tampa, FL 33606 or the Alzheimer’s Association online at act.alz.org/donate.

Rest In Peace classmates and good friends.
